Samsung Owes Firm $279 Million in Patent Infringement Trial (1)

Samsung Electronics Co. and its American unit owe Headwater Research LLC $279 million for creating and selling multiple electronic products, including smartphones and televisions.

Samsung infringed US Patent Nos. 8,406,733 and 9,198,117, according to a jury’s Friday verdict in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The jury determined Samsung didn’t prove the patents’ invalidity.

Headwater sued Samsung in March 2023, alleging the electronics giant incorporated similar wireless communication methods as the owner’s patent technology used in smartphones, tablets, wearables, televisions, and servers.
