Samsung Gets Patent Behind $92.6 Million in OLED Verdict Nixed

Samsung Electronics Co. persuaded a US patent tribunal to cancel a Pictiva Displays International Ltd. patent that helped secure an earlier $191.4 million verdict against Samsung over OLED display technology.

The challenged claims of US Patent No. 11,828,425 are invalid as obvious in light of earlier OLED research, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said in a final written decision issued Thursday. That wiped out the only claim from the Pictiva patent that federal jurors in November found Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices infringe.
