Samsung Beats Patent Lawsuit Brought by Firm With Unclean Hands

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. defeated a patent infringement lawsuit after a federal judge ruled that Staton Techiya LLC had unclean hands rendering its asserted claims unenforceable.

Techiya’s patent infringement allegations were dismissed because of misconduct by two former Samsung attorneys now running the patent licensing firm used by Techiya, according to an opinion filed Friday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Evidence shows “subversion of our adversarial system of litigation and an invasion of the attorney-client privilege” by the former attorneys, Judge Rodney Gilstrap said in the redacted 118-page opinion.
