Samsung Beats Headwater’s Wireless Patent Infringement Claims

Samsung Electronics Co. and its US unit defeated allegations the tech giant’s smartphones and tablets infringed Headwater Research LLC’s wireless communication patents at trial in Texas federal court.

Samsung’s creation and sales of the products didn’t infringe US Patent Nos. 9,143,976, a jury determined Friday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The jury did not determine whether Samsung proved the invalidity of the patent’s claims, according to the verdict.

Headwater sued Samsung in October 2022, alleging it infringed nine patents but later agreed to drop the majority of the patents, according to court records. ...
