S&P Global Sues Call-Center Company Over ‘S&P’ Name (1)

Financial information provider S&P Global Inc. sued call-center operating company S&P Data LLC in Manhattan federal court Tuesday for allegedly infringing multiple trademarks.

S&P Global says S&P Data has started focusing on similar financial services, and that its use of the “S&P” name is likely to confuse consumers.

S&P Global calls itself “the world’s largest resource for business data and analytics, credit ratings, business research and commentary and securities, stocks, bonds and commodities indexes,” and owns multiple federal trademarks covering “S&P” and related brands, including S&P 500, S&P Global, and S&P Global Market Intelligence.
