Riot Games’ Networking Patent Win Affirmed by Federal Circuit

The Federal Circuit on Tuesday affirmed wins by video-game developers Riot Games Inc. and Valve Corp. in validity challenges to two computer-networking patents at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

The court rejected PalTalk Holdings Inc.'s argument that parts of its patents weren’t invalid because the innovations weren’t disclosed in prior art.

U.S. Patent Nos. 5,822,523 and 6,226,686 cover a method for improving communications between computers playing an online multiplayer game.
