Riddell, Bell Sports Sue Rival Over Football Helmet Tech Patents

Dozens of football helmet models across three of Certor Sports LLC’s product lines infringe combinations of five patents, including two Riddell Inc. licenses exclusively from Revelyst Inc.’s Bell Sports unit, a federal lawsuit said.

Riddell and Bell Sports Inc. allege that 11 models of Certor’s VICIS Zero2 helmets, eight of its Schutt F7 models, and 13 in its Schutt Vengeance line infringe, according to a complaint filed March 14 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware. The five patents are related to helmet shell shape, impact-absorbing liner layers, and custom-fitting technology, it said.
