Ricoh Dodges Patent Lawsuit As Texas Judge Pours Out Plaintiff

Ricoh USA Inc. convinced a Texas federal judge to dismiss networking patent infringement claims against seven models of its color laser multifunction printers because the plaintiff didn’t include essential elements in its complaint.

Judge Alan Albright of the Western District of Texas dismissed Ortiz & Associates Consulting LLC’s claims Tuesday after finding the consulting company skimped on specifics to support its infringement claims, even as he found the Albuquerque, New Mexico, operation had standing to sue. He specifically highlighted Ortiz’s failure “to identify an essential element in the claim chart—the server.”
