UMG Recordings Inc., owner of the Republic Records music label, was denied a trademark injunction against the Republic crowdfunding investment platform and its recently launched Republic Music brand, which allows “artists to raise capital from their fans.”
UMG hasn’t shown that consumers would likely confuse Republic Records and Republic crowdfunding or that UMG has common law trademark rights to the word Republic alone, Judge Analisa Torres said in her Tuesday opinion.
