Reelz Network Halts Trademark Suit Over Instagram’s ‘Reels’

The owner of the Reelz cable network dropped its trademark lawsuit against Instagram over the social media network naming its 15-second video feature, Reels.

Hubbard Media Group LLC had said Instagram Inc.‘s “Reels” feature would lead consumers to think the two companies were affiliated in its August complaint. Its 2012 Reelz trademark covers television services, and it also has registered a “Reelz Now” mark to cover mobile video services.

Hubbard said at least one major publication had already mistakenly referred to the Instagram feature as “Reelz.”
