Redfin 3D Tours Predate Rival’s, Jury Told in Patent Clash (1)

Online real estate brokerage Redfin should dodge paying a competitor over $66 million in patent-infringement damages because its own 3D home tour program existed first, a jury in the Western District of Texas heard Monday.

In opening arguments, Redfin attorney Deron Dacus cited evidence including an email excerpt from Redfin founder David Eraker, who wrote that his former company’s software partner is “the first to market with modeling” and did a “really nice job” to boot.

Eraker went on to found Surefield, a competing online real estate website that also uses 3D modeling technology to show off its listings. The ...
