Redbox, Chicken Soup for the Soul Sued Over Streaming Patents

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment Inc. and its Redbox Automated Retail LLC subsidiary were accused in a Texas lawsuit of incorporating protected technology that enables aspects of video-on-demand streaming services without permission from the patent holder.

Redbox, which owns more than 29,000 scarlet DVD vending machines, and its parent—a streaming aggregator named after a best-selling line of inspirational self-help books—were accused of violating seven patents owned by MusicQubed Innovations LLC in a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
