Record Labels Win $47 Million in Piracy Case Against Texas ISP

A group of record labels including UMG Recordings Inc., Warner Bros. Records Inc., and Sony Music were awarded $46.7 million by a federal jury which found a Texas internet provider contributed to the piracy of more than 1,400 songs.

The Thursday verdict caps an almost month-long trial against Grande Communications Network LLC in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. The jury found that Grande’s contributory infringement was willful.

Attorneys for the parties didn’t immediately return requests for comment.
