Rapper Drake’s Old Record Label Sues Cash Money Records for Royalties

A record label that signed Canadian rap artist Drake in 2008 is suing Cash Money Records Inc. for failing to pay out its share of royalties generated by Drake’s first six albums (Aspire Music Group, LLC v. Cash Money Records, Inc., N.Y. Sup. Ct., 652029/2017, complaint filed 4/17/17).

Aspire Music Group LLC, which says it signed an exclusive deal with Drake for those albums, said in a complaint filed April 17 that the record company failed to pay Aspire what it was due as one-third owner of the copyrights in the recordings.
