Puma Says Brooks Shoes Worn at Olympic Trials Infringe Patents

Puma SE filed a federal lawsuit alleging several models of track and running shoes sold by Berkshire Hathaway’s Brooks Running infringe combinations of nine patents covering various athletic shoe designs and technologies.

Puma alleges that two Brooks Sports Inc. models of spike running shoes—the high-performance Hyperion Elite MD and the long-distance LD—infringe the same three design patents and either of two utility patents, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington.

“While Brooks values the intellectual property of others, these claims are without merit,” a Brooks spokesperson said Friday.
