Publication Will Have to Face Suit Over Screenshot of AOC Video

News website Mediaite LLC must face infringement claims over its use of a copyrighted video’s screenshot of House representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attending Jordan Neely’s funeral, a federal judge said.

Mediaite’s story—about the representative’s comments at the funeral for a man held in a chokehold on a New York City subway —used a screenshot of the Elaad Eliahu’s video which “occupied a prominent place” on the web page for the publication’s article and was the only image used, Judge Victor Marrero wrote in the opinion filed Monday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
