Prince, Spike Lee Sued for ‘Girl 6' Copyright Infringement

Prince’s song “Girl 6,” written for the 1996 Spike Lee movie of the same name, copied another song submitted for the film’s soundtrack, a Feb. 28 complaint in the Southern District of New York alleges.

James Brandon is suing Prince’s estate, his record label NPG Records Inc., Spike Lee and his former record label Forty Acres & a Mule Musicworks Inc., and Twentieth Century Fox for copyright infringement.

The complaint says Brandon was introduced to Spike Lee’s uncle, Clarence Lee, while managing and promoting the music group GOMAB in 1994. Brandon played the song “Phone Sex” for Clarence, who said ...
