Ross Convinces Third Circuit to Review AI Copyright Questions

The Third Circuit agreed to review Ross Intelligence Inc.'s appeal of a district court ruling finding its AI-powered legal tool’s ingestion of Thomson Reuters’ Westlaw headnotes isn’t fair use under copyright law.

The first summary judgment ruling rejecting a fair use defense in an AI-training copyright suit is ripe for immediate appeal, according to an order issued Tuesday by the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
