Google Must Pay $339 Million in Texas Video Casting Patent Fight

Google LLC owes $338.7 million in damages after a Texas jury found Google’s Chromecast video casting products infringed patented technology developed by a community college’s online learning specialist.

Federal jurors in the Western District of Texas’s Waco division found against Google after hearing four days of evidence concerning technology claimed by David Strober, SUNY Westchester Community College’s former e-learning instructional designer. Strober claims he invented video casting in mid-2010 as a way to bolster the two-year school’s online courses.
