Polar Hit With Patent Suit Over Fitness Smartwatch Technology

A Texas patent owner filed a lawsuit accusing Finnish smartwatch maker Polar Electro Oy of violating five patents related to smartwatch technology.

Polar’s smartwatches—including Grit X, Vantage, Pacer, Ignite, and Unite products—infringe patents covering switching power modes, displaying touchscreens, and fitness tracking capabilities, Slyde Analytics LLC said in a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

According to the complaint, Slyde is the US distributor for Myotest SA’s fitness tracking software, which is protected by US Patent Nos. 9,804,678, 10,198,085, 9,651,922, 9,873,018 and 9,536,134. Slyde marketed the software and ...
