PNC Loses Banking Patent Review Bid After $218 Million Jury Loss

An administrative tribunal shut down PNC Bank’s second attempt to probe the validity of a mobile banking patent involved in a $218 million infringement verdict against the bank.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board said Thursday that it will not revisit its decision to reject a patent-invalidity examination for US Patent No. 10,482,432, which covers digital check deposits using a mobile phone camera. The PTAB said PNC didn’t show that the board “misapprehended or overlooked” any details or abused its discretion in declining the examination.
