Philips Radio Communication System Patent Claim Axed by Tribunal

Multinational technology company Koninklijke Philips N.V. lost protection for one claim in a patent for a radio communication system Tuesday, as an administrative tribunal found it unpatentable.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board sided with Quectel Wireless Solutions Co., a global internet of things solutions provider, determining that a claim in Philips’ US Patent No. 8,195,216, which covers a radio communication system with the ability to improve power control for data transmission after it’s interrupted, is obvious and not eligible to be patented.
