Perplexity AI Sued Over Trademark by Similar-Named Software Firm

A Texas-based software company accused Perplexity AI Inc. of knowingly infringing its “perplexity” trademark to offer similar products and establish a website and social media accounts, a federal lawsuit said.

The artificial intelligence startup was well aware of Perplexity Solved Solutions Inc.'s registered trademark, because the company inquired about purchasing it in 2023, according to a Thursday complaint filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

Perplexity Solved seeks control of the “https://www.perplexity.ai/" domain and an injunction barring Perplexity AI from using the trademark during the lawsuit.
