Perkins Coie Disqualified From Jumio IP Case Over FaceTec Work

FaceTec Inc. convinced a federal judge to disqualify Perkins Coie LLP from defending Jumio Corp. in its lawsuit accusing the company of infringing facial recognition software patents.

Perkins’ prior work counseling FaceTec on intellectual property strategy bars the firm from representing Jumio in the suit because there’s substantial risk that information acquired by the firm through its prior representation will become material to the current lawsuit, according to an opinion filed March 28 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
