Pepperdine Sues Netflix Over Team Name in ‘Running Point’ Show

Pepperdine University accused Netflix Inc. and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. of infringing its trademarks by featuring a basketball team using its name and colors in its new series “Running Point,” which is produced by Mindy Kaling, stars Kate Hudson, and releases this month.

The fictional Los Angeles Waves professional basketball team uses the Mailbu, Calif. school’s orange and blue colors as well as its name, according to the Thursday complaint in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
