People.ai Business Software Patents Cut Down as Abstract (1)

Several People.ai Inc. patents are invalid because they cover ineligible subject matter, a California federal judge ruled in lawsuits the business-analytics firm brought against two competitors over business software.

People.ai’s patents relate to customer relationship management platforms, used by businesses to manage customer interactions. The company accused SetSail Technologies Inc. and Clari Inc. of infringing its patented technology.

Judge William Alsup in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California found in a Monday order that the patents are invalid for claiming only an abstract idea. Alsup said the patents generally covered activities a typical salesperson would do. ...
