Peloton Fends Off Challenge To Exercise Bike Leaderboard Patent

Peloton Interactive Inc. beat a challenge to its leaderboard patent, with an administrative tribunal crediting the “huge commercial success” of its exercise bikes.

Echelon Fitness Multimedia LLC argued U.S. Patent No. 10,486,026, which is related to the digital leaderboard on Peloton bikes, was invalid because it covers an obvious invention.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board said Echelon had “moderately strong” arguments. But it found “compelling evidence” that Peloton’s bikes were a commercial hit, and that success was closely tied to the patented technology.
