Peloton Beats Interactive Bike Patent Infringement Claims

Peloton Interactive Inc. on Thursday beat claims brought in Manhattan federal court by former business partners who alleged the exercise bike maker infringed their patent.

VR Optics’ patent is invalid because it was anticipated by an earlier patent covering interactive fitness equipment, the court said.

Peloton recruited Villency Design Group LLC to help design its interactive stationary bikes with integrated touchscreen computers in 2012. The companies signed another agreement in 2014 that, among other things, said VDG’s bike-related IP didn’t infringe third-party rights, and that VDG would indemnify Peloton against IP claims.
