Patent Suit Against Wisconsin Gun Maker to Go on, Judge Orders

Rifle manufacturer Patriot Ordnance Factory, Inc.'s patent-infringement case against Wisconsin-based Hearing Protection LLC, which does business as Griffin Armament, will continue for now, as a federal judge’s ruled against early dismissal Tuesday.

Judge William M. Conley of the US District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin wrote that it would be premature to end the case on the limited record before the court. The suit was filed in July 2021.

Conley said a dismissal would necessarily depend on the judge picking between the parties’ dueling interpretations of a claim in a patent owned by the Phoenix, Ariz.-based Patriot Ordnance, ...
