Patent Office Eyes AI Inventorship Policies, Solicits Input

Amid the rise of rapidly progressing artificial intelligence and ongoing litigation, the US Patent and Trademark Office is seeking feedback on its current policies that prevent AI from being credited as the inventors or co-inventors of registered works.

The PTO’s request for comments, set to be published in the Federal Register on Tuesday, seeks input on current standards for inventorship and issues that may arise considering the increased role that AI plays in the innovation process.
