Patent Office Closing to the Public Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

March 16, 2020, 1:49 AM UTC

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is closing its facilities to the public as of Monday “out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the public and USPTO employees.”

Offices will be closed until further notice, the agency said Sunday, but will “remain open for employees, contractors, and those with access badges.”

The patent office announcement comes as government agencies prepare for more disruption from the spread of Covid-19.

“Unless otherwise notified, USPTO operations will continue without interruption. Patent and trademark application deadlines and other deadlines are not extended,” the agency said.
