Patagonia Says Pro-Oil ‘Petrogonia’ Clothes Infringe Trademarks

Outdoor clothing maker Patagonia Inc. says an oil-and-gas industry marketing company infringes its trademarks with “Petrogonia” apparel.

Patagonia’s Monday complaint in Los Angeles federal court says OC Media’s design is “nearly identical” to its mountain silhouette logo, “only replacing the mountain silhouette with machinery associated with oil wells.” OC Media’s website says it “provides networking events and a full-service digital marketing agency focused on the oil and gas industry.”

The word “Petrogonia” also appears on the clothing in a font nearly identical to Patagonia’s word trademark, according to the complaint. Patagonia says OC Media has also filed to register the ...
