Pantech Corp. sued OnePlus Technology Co. alleging it infringed eight patents through its sale of cellphones using LTE and 5G technology and refused to conduct fair and reasonable licensing discussions.
OnePlus is required by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute to have a license for essential patents for its cellular communications, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Pantech, a South Korea-based cell phone manufacturer, and its Pantech Wireless LLC unit said their patents are essential for OnePlus’ Nord series and other smartphones but OnePlus refused to buy a license.
