Chamberlain Wins $43.4 Million in Garage Opener Tech Trial (2)

Overhead Door Corp. failed to overcome a second patent trial in a dispute with the Chamberlain Group Inc. over a smart garage door system, after a federal jury said it owed $43.4 million plus a running royalty for future damages.

A jury in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas’ Marshall Division found Overhead Door infringed a Chamberlain patent covering wireless garage-door opener technology. However, they didn’t find willful infringement.

They did find Chamberlain is entitled to a running royalty for damages beyond the period covered in the case, which ran to March 2022, and moving forward. ...
