Oracle’s TopLink Database Product Doesn’t Infringe Patent

Oracle Corp.'s Toplink mapping framework for its Java programming language survived another challenge when a federal appeals court found it doesn’t infringe Thought Inc.'s patent on systems and methods for accessing data in databases (Thought, Inc. v. Oracle Corp., 2017 BL 291796, Fed. Cir., 16-2369, unpublished 8/21/17).

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed, in an Aug. 21 nonprecedential ruling, Oracle’s trial court win. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted Oracle’s request for summary judgment and ruled that Toplink doesn’t perform the method covered by the patent.
