Optical Lens Patent Challenged by Motorola Survives on Appeal

A Largan Precision Co. optical-lens patent survived Motorola Mobility’s validity challenge after the phone maker failed to persuade the Federal Circuit to reverse a tribunal’s decision.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s finding that Largan’s patent wasn’t obvious because of two prior optical lens system patent applications was on solid footing, according to Judge Raymond T. Chen in an opinion issued Monday by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
