OpenReel Patent on Remote-Video Tool Is ‘Abstract,’ Judge Says

RiversideFM Inc., an Israel-based startup that counts Disney and Spotify among the corporate users of its enterprise remote-video creation platform, convinced a federal judge to dismiss a patent-infringement complaint by OpenReel in Delaware federal court.

ClearDoc Inc., as OpenReel is formally known, filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, alleging Riverside’s platform infringes a patent issued in February 2020 covering systems and methods for recording and storing media content. It wants the court to order Riverside’s tool pulled from the U.S. market, and damages including lost profits and a reasonable royalty.
