A federal judge ordered OpenAI Inc. to turn over all in-house attorney communications about its deletion of data from a pirate library, saying documents the AI giant fought to shield from authors in a consolidated copyright dispute could demonstrate willful infringement.

Communications among OpenAI attorneys and staff regarding the deletion of data from notorious pirate library LibGen “confirm that such communications are likely probative of willfulness,” Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang wrote in an order issued Monday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
