OpenAI Clashes With News Outlets on Training Copyright Harms (1)

OpenAI Inc. and Microsoft Corp. urged a federal judge to narrow lawsuits from New York Times Co. and other news organizations accusing them of copyright infringement, arguing in a hearing Tuesday the outlets hadn’t adequately shown specific harms to justify their claims.

The companies asked Judge Sidney H. Stein of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York to jettison claims of direct and contributory copyright infringement, violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and state-law misappropriation in separate motions to dismiss in three consolidated lawsuits brought by The New York Times, Daily News ...
