OpenAI Infringes Sora Library App Trademark, OverDrive Says (1)

OpenAI’s new test-to-video generation software “Sora” infringes the trademark of a well-established digital library app for schools, OverDrive Inc. told an Ohio federal court.

OpenAI OpCo LLC, a for-profit OpenAI Inc. subsidiary, told OverDrive the term was just a ChatGPT feature rather than a standalone product before launching it as a separate app, the Wednesday complaint in the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio said. But despite also pointing out that OverDrive’s SORA app is accompanied by a cartoon mascot, it said, OpenAI also created a cartoon mascot for its app.
