A California federal judge cut a $53.6 million punitive award from former teen pop group OMG Girlz’ $71 million win over toymaker MGA Entertainment Inc. over dolls a jury found to copy the band’s look.
The jury justifiably found that MGA’s popular L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. line of dolls misappropriated the band members’ likenesses and awarded $17.8 million in compensatory damages, Judge James V. Selna said in civil minutes filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California said.
