Olivia Trusty Confirmed as Second FCC Republican Member

Olivia Trusty was confirmed as a member of the Federal Communications Commission by the US Senate on Wednesday, restoring a Republican majority at the regulatory agency overseeing the nation’s broadcasters, phone companies and internet providers.

The vote was 53 to 45.

Trusty’s appointment creates an opportunity for FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, to advance an agenda that includes pushing companies to abandon diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and probing public broadcasters’ sponsorship arrangements.
