Oakland Fights to End San Francisco’s Airport Trademark Suit

Oakland, California moved to quash San Francisco’s lawsuit accusing it of infringing a federal trademark with the proposed change to “San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport.”

San Francisco’s mark for “San Francisco International Airport” doesn’t extend to names containing “San Francisco Bay,” Oakland said Thursday in its answer to the lawsuit. Declaring so ignores the geographical fact that Oakland’s airport sits on the bay, according to the pleading, which also said the lawsuit constitutes an anticompetitive effort to prevent people from knowing multiple airports serve the bay area.
