NXP Loses Patent Trial in Dispute With Impinj Over RFID Tech (1)

NXP Semiconductors NV lost a case over technology that wirelessly connects products to the internet, as a federal jury in Seattle found Impinj Inc.’s RFID tag chips and readers don’t infringe an NXP patent.

Jurors reached the verdict Thursday in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, finding certain Impinj readers and integrated circuits don’t infringe US Patent No. 7,374,097, which covers a data carrier that stores information represented by an information voltage. Bloomberg Law estimates a February 2025 expiration.
