Nvidia, Microsoft Accused of AI Patent Theft, Buyers’ Cartel (2)

Nvidia Corp.'s sudden rise to become the world’s largest AI chipmaker was fueled by technology it stole, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday.

Xockets Inc.—which was co-founded by engineer Parin Dalal—accused Nvidia and its partner Microsoft Corp. of infringing seven patents covering semiconductor technology that offloads the most data-intensive tasks associated with artificial intelligence computing to a component called a data processing unit, or DPU.

“This technology was taken from Xockets,” states the complaint, pointing to three specific Nvidia DPU products. “And it was done so knowingly.”
