Nvidia Faces Class Action Over Scraping YouTube to Train AI

A group of YouTubers filed a putative copyright class action accusing Nvidia Corp. of illegally circumventing protective measures to scrape millions of videos to train its AI.

The entities owning the YouTube channels H3H3 Productions, Mr.ShortGame Golf, and Golfholics filed their suit against the tech company Nov. 26 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. They alleged Nvidia mass-scraped YouTube to train Cosmos—its foundational video world AI model—and cited internal communications published by 404 Media in an August 2024 article “Leaked Documents show Nvidia Scraping ‘A Human Lifetime’ of Videos Per Day to Train AI.”
