Nvidia Accused of Copying SiliconArts’ Lifelike Graphics Tech

Nvidia Corp.’s graphics cards and cloud services infringe a SiliconArts Technology US Inc. patent for technology that makes graphics in video games and movies look more realistic, a federal lawsuit said.

SiliconArts, a unit of South Korea-based Intellectual Discovery Co., alleged that a range of Nvidia’s graphics processing units and services use hardware-accelerated technology for real-time ray tracing—which simulates how light moves and reflects in 3D environments—infringing US Patent No. 9,965,889, according to a complaint filed March 21 in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
