Norton Antivirus’ ex-Law Firm Seeks $296 Million Fine Reversal

A year since a Virginia federal judge nearly tripled patent infringement damages against NortonLifeLock Inc., the antivirus company’s former law firm, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, argued the penalty “cannot stand” after the firm declined to disclose privileged communications.

Norton’s damages for patent infringement of an antivirus software climbed to $481 million in September 2023 after the judge found that Quinn Emanuel declined to disclose communications with a potential witness whose testimony may have hurt the tech company’s defense.
