Nokia Resolves Patent Dispute With Chinese Phonemaker Vivo

Nokia Oyj and Chinese phone maker Vivo announced they had reached a patent agreement on Monday, ending a years-long dispute that dragged the two companies into court and forced Vivo to pull out of Germany.

The companies agreed on multi-year deal for Vivo to make royalty payments to Nokia for the right to use its 5G technology. Vivo will also make back payments covering the dispute period.

Nokia, once the world’s biggest mobile phone maker, holds a significant patent portfolio of technologies needed to make phones, and the associated licensing revenue is a major contributor to its operating profit.
