Nirvana Smiley Face Is LA Artist’s, He Says in Marc Jacobs Suit

A Los Angeles art designer asked a California federal court to rule that he is the owner and creator of Nirvana’s “smiley face” logo in a contentious copyright case between the band and fashion company Marc Jacobs International LLC.

Robert Fisher, who worked with Nirvana in the 1990s, intervened in the case in September 2020 after learning that Nirvana was suing Marc Jacobs for selling t-shirts that allegedly infringed its copyright of the smiley face logo.
